Description

Law and Internet Foundation (LIF) is a Bulgarian non-profit organization with the ideal goal to contribute to the fast penetration of the information and communication technologies (ICT) in the legal profession, the development of the ICT law and the realization of interactive projects and solutions. Among our team’s research areas are legal issues and practical aspects in the field of electronic documents and electronic signatures, e-identity, e-government, e-commerce, e-communications, e-health, e-justice (incl. cybercrimes and electronic evidence issues), privacy and data protection, IPR protection online, etc. We have implemented more than 75 consultancy projects and ICT Law initiatives incl. trainings and legislation development. Law and Internet Foundation research and policy reform projects were supported by prestigious donor organizations as the European Commission, the World bank, NATO, American Bar Association – Legal initiatives for Central Europe and Eurasia (ABA/CEELI), U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), The Balkan Trust for Democracy, U.S. Department of State, etc.

National / international impact

Since its creation LIF managed to successfully complete more than 100 national and international projects funded by different programs. The Foundation’s particular objectives of the foundation are twofold. One of the objectives is the development of the legislation in the field of ICT law and contributing towards its proper enforcement. The other main objective is to contribute towards the wide penetration of ICT and their implementation and wide use in the legal profession and by the administration. The Foundation has long term experience in organizing events such as trainings, seminars, conferences, etc. producing research projects, policies recommendations and analyses. It has been successfully projects for the EC, NATO, World Bank, Balkan Trust of Democracy, for Bulgarian ministries and state bodies, etc. The organisation has leading experts with diverse expertise and research profile, among other, in the areas of communication and media law, e-commerce, e-government, intellectual property protection, competition, mergers and acquisitions, standardization and security in the area of ICT, cybercrimes, etc. The role of the Foundation is related to the overall organization and management of all project’s activities, attaining the desired goals and coordination, for securing participants and dissemination of information, communicating with participants, partners, interested parties, etc. Also, the task of LIF is to build a methodology for procurement of the necessary records information in an appropriate way to integrate in the UEIS.
